Christ instituted the sacrament of Penance [also called confession or reconciliation] for all the members of the church who have sinned: above all for those who, since Baptism, have fallen into grave sin, and have thus lost their baptismal grace and wounded the communal life of the church. It is to them that the sacrament of penance offers a new possibility to convert and to recover the grace of justification. [CCC, No. 1446]
Individual ReconciliationThe sacrament of penance is offered a half hour before each weekday Mass and Sundays, in the reconciliation room which is accessed from the west side aisle of the church.
Additional Opportunities for Reconciliation
During the seasons of Advent and Lent, other opportunities for the sacrament of penance are offered, either as additional times for individual confessions or as communal penance services with individual confession and absolution. Sacred Heart usually welcomes additional priest confessors at these times. Times for these opportunities for confession are published in The Guardian and announced at weekend Masses.First Reconciliation for Children
Children are prepared to celebrate their first reconciliation during second grade. Parents and children participate in several preparation sessions. Parents decide when it is appropriate for their child to celebrate the sacrament. Many families participate with their children in special reconciliation opportunities scheduled following completion of the preparation sessions.
