Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteering to help in our Religious Education program is a wonderful way to share your faith with our children. Teachers, classroom aides, administrative help, and artists are some of the potential volunteer areas. With the range of programs Sacred Heart offers it is quite likely that we will have a need that matches your skills and schedule. Everyone working with our children is required to complete a Protecting God's Children Workshop and submit a Criminal Background Check. Contact the Faith Formation office to discuss all the possibilities.

Sacred Heart offers catechesis for children from Preschool (ages 3-5) through 8th grade. Our catechists and students share and grow in faith as they journey together. Our primary text for grades 1-5 is Discover, from St. Mary's Press. The highlight of this material is that the textbook used is the Catholic Children's Bible. So each lesson is based on Scripture with our Catholic tradition incorporated.

For more information on any program please call: (313) 565-1020.Teaching StaffWe have a dedicated teaching staff at Sacred Heart School and volunteer Catechists for our evening & weekend programs who are trained to help lead our children in learning and experiencing the Catholic faith. Their involvement and commitment to Religious Education is truly an inspiration. We welcome the involvement of parents in all of our programs.
Preschool
In the Preschool Program, which is now offered on Wednesay evenings along with the Elementary program, is designed for children ages the basic concepts of our relationships with God and the world are explored. Through Scripture, stories, videos, songs, and crafts, catechists introduce our youngest Catholics to an experience of their faith. These sessions are held weekly. We use the ALLELU program from Our Sunday Visitor.Elementary SchoolBeginning with Grade 1 through 5th grade, the children experience God on a deeper level. We use texts that approach religious education from a spiraling format. At each grade level, children will engage in lessons relating to the four pillars of the Catechism of the Catholic Church-Creed, Sacraments, Morality, and Prayer-thereby allowing them to build on their beliefs from year to year.These sessions are held weekly on Wednesday evenings from 6:15-7:30 p.m.Middle School StudentsOur Middle School Program (grades 6-8) allows students to experience and engage in their faith outside of school through a Youth Ministry-based model including group learning and sharing, various prayer experiences, HOLY FIRE national youth Conference, discipleship and service opportunities, social justice experiences, retreats, and hands-on creative projects all connecting to key topics of interest to middle school youth and connecting also to their Catholic faith. We also offer additional activities for this age group through a Youth Ministry based program called J.A.M.S. (Jesus and Middle School Students).
Middle School Faith Formation sessions are held on Wednesday evenings from 6:15-7:30 p.m. The texts used are Finding God by Loyola Press.
